Batting Training Device
The Bataround story is a story of
the passion of an ex baseball player and the talent
and dedication of an engineer. As Rick Chambers,
the ex ball player puts it - “I always had thought
my concept for a batting training device was something
that baseball/softball players would find beneficial.”
Rick worked off and on with his friend Randy Williamson
trying to put a functional practical device in motion.
Rick approached The University of the Pacific, in Stockton
CA, with his concept for a free feasibility study to
be conducted by their Eberhardt School of Business for
their Masters program.
They bought into it. Even in its raw form of a prototype,
“…my invention was rated by far their favorite
marketable product for the semester”, states Rick.
“It wasn’t until I met Larry Kost,
a professional metals engineer that this project really
took on a professional form” Rick says. With many
prototypes tested for many hours and refinements continually
made along the way Larry’s ability to fabricate,
analyze and refine production has been an invaluable
element to the development of this product.
Together they have worked hard to complete what they
feel will be one of the most sought after batting practice
devices on the market.
Rick played baseball for most of his youth; he was
a member of a Mexican-American League team out of Sacramento
Ca. until he threw his arm out and had to retire. He
was a very good hitter as well as a pitcher/outfielder
but received a minimum of training, like most kids his
age. This challenged Rick to develop a product that
young people such as his son could use.
It is paying off. Rick says his son has always been
a very good hitter, but now he has improved his abilities
with this additional practice using the Bataround.
He batted .462 in his last summer league schedule leading
the Team by increasing his solid contact with the ball.
